Biography Marc de Reuver competes for the title of Sports Book of the Year
Together with fifty other sports books OPEN, the biography of motocross rider Marc de Reuver by author Tim Gerth, on the list of nominated books for the Nico Scheepmaker Beker, the Dutch prize for the writer of the best Sports Book of the Year 2021. The book published in November 2021 is about life by the flamboyant and controversial motocross rider and trainer Marc de Reuver.
It was welcomed with open arms by crossend Netherlands, so it sold out in no time. The third edition of the book is now in stores and the international version is on its way to the printer. OPEN is the only motocross book published in the selection is included, which also consists of various books about Formula 1, the biography of Johan Derksen and the biography of Wim Jansen, Mastermind, also published by Edicola publishers. The jury will consider the nominations in the coming period and announce the finalists at a later stage.
In 2020 the prize went to Ali was my friend by Erik Dijkstra. Tim Gerth hopes so OPEN may follow in the footsteps of the book written by Natasja Weber Brutal, which was also published by Edicola and reached the finals in the 2020 edition of the competition. 'That would of course be a nice reward for our work, but also for Edicola's trust. They took on the challenge of publishing a book by a debuting writer about an underexposed sport and it exceeded every expectation! Precisely because we are competing against countless football and Formula 1 books, I think there is a real chance that this unique story will stand out to the jury. But the appointment is already a huge compliment!'
International version on the way
While a new edition of the Dutch version is in the pipeline, we have worked hard over the winter on the English translation of OPEN. Tim Gerth: 'I ultimately chose to do the translation myself, as it is quite a challenge to translate Marc's words into English and maintain authenticity. It was quite a challenge, but I'm now completely over it.' According to the schedule, the English version of the book will be printed around March 20.
