Ken Roczen on his crash in Oakland
During the second round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship 450SX, Ken Roczen lost the 'Redplate' to Justin Barcia. Teammate Chase Sexton had a tough day but managed to limit the damage. Hunter Lawrence was on the podium just like the previous weekend. The Honda rider came second and the trio tells their story here from the RingCentral Coliseum.
Ken Roczen:
“There's not really much to say about Oakland. I have the feeling that the day already started a bit difficult because I didn't feel well on the track, but we did our best! Chase and I crashed pretty hard in the last qualifying practice. I was really lucky that I didn't get a serious injury because he hit my head! It all happened so quickly and I ended up hitting the ground and ending up in the wrong place. The heat went well but the final was less good. The start was still reasonable, but in the fourth laps I made a mistake on the whoops. We're just not good enough there, so that has to improve! I finished 13th, but I'm already looking forward to next week, the season is still long.”
Chase Sexton:
“The day started well in Oakland but after the qualifying sessions everything went downhill. Ken and I fell together on the whoops, that was intense. Fortunately, we are both still okay. After that I won my heat race, but I especially had a hard time on those whoops. It was a tough day for me, but I have high hopes for a better finish in San Diego. I'm excited to get back to work this week and get ready for next weekend.”
Hunter Lawrence:
“Oakland was good with a second place in the finals. Still, I'm definitely a little frustrated. I had a few more laps than last weekend to pass Seth Hammaker but he didn't want to cooperate. He was riding really well at the beginning, so I had to step up my pace to pass him. My start wasn't ideal, so we'll work on that this week. We are fit and healthy and hopefully we can turn that into a win in San Diego.”
