Official: Ruben Fernandez rides MXGP in Mantova
After three MX2 podium finishes in Trentino, Honda 114 Motorsports rider Ruben Fernandez will swap his Honda CRF250R for a CRF450R at the final two motos of the 2021 season in Mantova.
Giacomo Gariboldi of the HRC Honda team previously announced that Tim Gajser will not be alone during the diptych in Mantova. After a season in which Fernandez has made a lot of progress under the tutelage of Livia Lancelot, it is a rightful reward for the Spaniard who won the MX2 red-plate earlier this year and who has shown that when fit and healthy he can , can compete with the fastest 250 riders in the world.
The final two races will take place in Mantova, Italy, where Fernandez will remain under the 114 Motorsports banner, to minimize the pressure already brought by his debut in this highly competitive MXGP. He will ride alongside Canadian Dylan Wright, who has shown excellent speed since arriving in Europe in October. The pair will hope to impress all the Italian fans who will be present for this intense final.
Since Fernandez will be able to ride in MX2 again next year, these two races are just an opportunity for him to show his talent and see where he is at and allow him to gain a bit of experience before he makes the full-time move to MXGP in 2023 have to make.
