Will there be injection on KTM's two-stroke motocross bikes in 2023?
The Austrians dropped a serious bombshell in 2017 when they equipped their two-stroke enduros with electronic injection. The so-called TwinPort Injection, or TPI for short, revolutionized the enduro market. But will KTM now also bring this technology to motocross in 2023?
A “spy photo” (photo at the top of this article) of a KTM with TPI that is supposed to pass for a 125SX is circulating on the internet. There is now nothing visible where the carburetor is normally located. It would be a logical step for the brand to equip the two-strokes with injection. They were able to use the experience of enduro racing in the development of an injection system on a cross bike.
Moreover, 2023 is certainly a year in which KTM will implement major innovations. The four-stroke power sources have remained virtually unchanged for more than six years. If KTM, and by extension Husqvarna and GasGas, switch to injection on their 2023 two-stroke models, they will once again take a big lead over their competitors.
During the earlier article we already wrote about the operation and benefits of the TPI system.
