Herlings about losing the redplate
The sixteenth race of the FIM MXGP World Championship did not go smoothly for Jeffrey Herlings. The 27-year-old rider loses the lead in the title battle to Romain Febvre. The KTM rider drops back to third place, but the difference with the leader is only three points. With two matches to go it is particularly exciting, Herlings talks about the third and final match of Arco di Trento.
Jeffrey Herlings:
“Where can I start? The day started pretty well but it went downhill from there. My start was good in the first moto but I couldn't get into my rhythm in the first three laps. At one point I was in fourth place but lost a lot of time passing Jorge Prado. Febvre and Seewer were gone then! Third place was still ok! In the second moto I wanted to attack and go for the win. I arrived in second place and thought this would be my moto. When I crossed the finish hump I wanted to attack Tim because I felt I had the speed but my bike started to shake and I fell. It was my own fault but afterwards my bike was a bit bent so I needed a few laps to get into my rhythm. When this was the case, I was closing in on Febvre until my hand came off the handlebars before the finish line and I was shot off. That was a hard blow and I fell heavily. The engine was even more warped than it already was. From that moment on I knew I had to do something special. I had fallen back to tenth place and I had to keep attacking because every point counts. I am now three points behind and know it is in my own hands. I haven't made it easy for myself and the last two Grand Prix's have been difficult but it is all still possible. I want to thank Tony. Only the greatest and greatest champions do this. Today he not only showed me how loyal he is to KTM, but he also really helped me and I scored two extra points. Only a real team player does that. Also Jorge because I had to pass him three times in the moto. We tackled it as a team and I would like to thank them very much for this.”
