Emotional book presentation biography of Marc de Reuver
OPEN, the biography of Marc de Reuver, was presented to a select group of guests on Saturday evening. Thanks to the organization of Marc's team, F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team, and the presence of three great examples of Marc, grandfather Piet de Reuver, idol Dave Strijbos and team owner Harry Fasé, it became an evening that Marc will never forget.
Due to the last-minute announcement of new corona measures, every effort was made to hold the presentation at an earlier time. Thanks to the flexibility and hard work of everyone involved in the team, which was still 'normal' in Mantova on Wednesday for the last GP of the season, the truck and hospitality unit of F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team was there, as we have come to expect from them. were perfect and the presentation continued as normal.
Although he didn't realize it yet, there was also an anniversary to celebrate for Marc. Exactly fifteen years after his victory in the 2006 Red Bull Knock Out, his book is actually in his hands. It was an evening to remember for the Trener, who does not like to be in the spotlight.
“We initially wanted to make it a surprise party, but I'm glad we didn't do that,” concluded writer Tim Gerth, who is happy that the book is available. “It has become quite a large copy with more than 300 pages. I have heard that there are a lot of people for whom this is the first book they are going to read, so we also added 32 pages of photos to keep it fun for the cross-audience,” he summarized the book with a laugh. together in numbers. Although the book is on the long side for a sports biography and is already full of beautiful stories, Gerth acknowledged that the person Marc de Reuver is difficult to capture in one book. “I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that we could have written at least five books with everything we discussed together.”
Old acquaintances and great examples
The room was mainly filled with family, old acquaintances and sponsors of Marc. However, there were a number of people who greeted Marc from a distance for various reasons, including Joshua Coppins, Marc's favorite teammate, who emphasized his enormous appreciation for the way Marc has found his way after his career. “I know that life after your racing career can be terribly difficult. That is why I am especially proud of what you have achieved after your career and what you are now doing with F&H. I hope the riders listen to you a little, because you have a lot to teach them!”
The first recipients of the book were three role models for Marc. First of all, grandfather Piet de Reuver. “You may not know it, grandpa, but you are truly an example of mine. I have always looked up to you,” Marc told his 89-year-old grandfather, who had traveled to Moordrecht in his Easter best for this occasion. Marc's greatest role model as a rider, world champion Dave Strijbos, also received a copy. “Everyone has their own example and for me that has always been you, Dave,” said Marc. “Maybe you, like me, could have become world champion more often, but I admired you for your riding style and that has always remained the case,” Marc addressed the 125 1986cc motocross world champion.
Harry Fasé, the team owner of F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team and host of the evening, also received a book. Marc said that he greatly appreciates his 'boss' not only as an employer, but especially as a person. “The conversations we have had since I started working here also help me enormously as a person and I am incredibly grateful for that,” said a visibly affected Marc. “We are very proud to have you as a trainer,” said Harry Fasé. “And we made an agreement with each other, right? We are going to become world champions! And we won't stop until we get there. We are now making another big step with the team and I am really looking forward to next year!” To which Marc replied affirmatively: “We're going to accelerate again!”
Shampan and frikandel special
After the toast with 'Sjampan' there was plenty of discussion while enjoying Marc's favorite snack, a special frikandel with ketchup. Partly thanks to the generous hospitality of the Fasé family and the team, the party lasted until the short hours permitted by the imposed corona restrictions.
OPEN will be available in good Dutch and Belgian bookstores around November 18. A very limited number of hand-signed copies can still be ordered via .
About OPEN
In OPEN, Marc tells everything about his life on and off the track: from the first moment he got on a motorcycle to his career as a trainer. In addition to his sporting career, Marc also talks about his wrong turns in life, the pressure on a top athlete, his struggle with finding a 'steady life' and the lessons he brings to today's youth. After his career as a motocross rider, De Reuver focused on a career as a trainer and has already won a world title (in 2017 with Pauls Jonass) and a European title (in 2019 with Roan van de Moosdijk).
