EICMA: Minarelli presents 300cc 2T injection concept engine
The first news has just trickled in from the EICMA fair in Milan, which opened its doors today. Motori Minarelli surprisingly presented a two-stroke single-cylinder engine with injection. It is a concept engine that is already far advanced in the development of fuel injection on a two-stroke.
Motori Minarelli is owned by Yamaha and has been known for decades for their excellent two-stroke engines. They are main supplier to Fantic and that means that we have to be careful when the Fantic's are equipped with Minarelli's Fi system. The 300cc two-stroke FI is derived from the Yamaha YZ250 power source.
It seems that Minarelli uses a different method of injection than KTM with their Twin Port Injection. There is no injector on the side of the Minarelli cylinder. It seems to have found a place between the throttle body and the back of the cylinder. By choosing a cylinder capacity of 300cc, the brand may be aiming for FI to enter Fantic's enduro machines. More about this concept bike later.
