Maxime Renaux will ride in the MXGP next year
After winning his first world title in MX2, Maxime Renaux announced that he was considering a switch to MXGP. The decision has now been made, the Frenchman will start next year in the class with 450cc engines.
Renaux became MX2 world champion this year after a truly fantastic season for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team of Hans Corvers. He beat his teammate Jago Geerts by no less than 124 points. Already in 2015 he showed his talent by becoming Junior 125cc World Champion in El Molar, Spain.
In 2019 he rode his first full season in MX2 and finished seventh. Last year he finished third in the World Cup and this year he won the well-deserved world title. After the Supercross in Paris, Renaux will now move to Louis Vosters' MXGP team to compete alongside Jeremy Seewer and Glenn Coldenhoff.
Maxime Renaux: "I'm really excited for the new challenge and the next chapter, moving to MXGP. I know it will be a whole new challenge, and it is the most important part of my career, because once you reach MXGP you are at the top, there is no class to go beyond. I feel ready, and I'm really looking forward to making this experience a good one and a long one. I tested the bike and I already feel very good and very comfortable. I've ridden a 450 in the past, so it's not a new bike for me, but it's my first time on a Factory YZ450FM, and I already feel ready, so now we're going to spend the winter testing and tailor the bike to me as best as possible, so that we are ready for next season. I'm looking forward to all this."
