Vos/Susebeek win the National Sidecar Championships in Oss
Wilfred Vos and Wessel Susebeek won the National Championships in Oss today. Bens/Van Leuken came second and Veldman/Leferink came third.
The first heat in Oss was initially flagged red after a mega start crash. Hoorman/Schinnerlitz moved sideways on top of the starting field and crashed into Ribbers/Hotze, causing them to go terribly over their heads. They saw a number of combinations crash into them. Both baking player Hotze and driver Ribbers were injured. Hooreman also did not start in the restart of the first heat, which would only have ten minutes remaining. Brusselers/Van Gennip took the holeshot but were quickly passed by Vaerenberg/Beunk, Bens/Van Leuken and Veldman/Leferink.
In the second lap Veldman passed both Vaerenberg and Bens and took the lead and gained some distance from the pursuers. In the last lap, however, Vos/Susebeek came up well and once in second place they were able to come within a few seconds of the eventual winners Veldman/Leferink. But Vos/Susebeek remained second after a nice race and Bens/Van Leuken came in third.
In the second heat, Bens/Van Leuken took the holeshot, but Veldman/Leferink quickly took over the initiative. However, this was short-lived! Veldman/Leferink fell back because the footrest had broken off. Like a true rider, Veldman rode with both feet in the box, but not as fast as normal. Yet they still finished seventh at the finish!
With Veldman/Leferink falling back, Bens/Van Leuken took over the initiative again, but Vos/Susebeek came back fiercely. Halfway through the race they were able to take over the lead from Bens/Van Leuken. After this they walked away and Vos/Susebeek crossed the finish line not only as winners of the second heat but also as total National Championship winners in Oss. Bens/Van Leuken came second and they also finished second overall. Grondman finished third in this heat, but third place in the final standings still went to Veldman/Leferink!
The last National Championships will be held in Varsseveld next week.
