VMCF: Successful rehearsal for Matteo Puffet
The Fullgass crew was responsible for the closing price of this special cross-season on the Heeserbergen of Lommel. As an extra, the final for all youth series was also on the program and an extra final for the newcomers and the ladies.
Despite the thick fog during the opening heats, an unexpectedly high number of riders showed up for this sandpit. Once the winter sun came through, it became a real highlight with beautiful heats so that the VMCF could not have ended the season better
Plenty of plans were already being made for 2022 because the entire day was buzzing with plans and proposals!
The youth were in the spotlight because all youth pilots were honored by the JDS team and a host of sponsors. Every youth rider from VMCf received a goodie bag filled to the brim. Nearly a hundred youth pilots showed up for this race in the Lommel sandbox.
A fantastic field of participants registered at the Heeserbergen and Mark Boot was allowed to claim the holeshot ahead of David Foguenne and Wesley Smolders. Jasper Van Der Mieren, Dennis Wagemans and Glenn Bielen followed a little further on. The start was less smooth for Matteo Puffet, but the Yamaha rider cut through the peloton very quickly until he ended up in sixth place. The sand specialist then lost no fewer than three times, so no one gave a cent for his chances. At the front, David Foguenne had taken over the lead and Mark Boot was having a hard time with Glenn Bielen, Wesley Smolders and Dennis Wagemans. However, only Bielen would easily get past Mark Boot, but the others fought hard against a well-defended Boot who, however, had to give up in the final round when Matteo Puffet suddenly showed up. David Foguenne won ahead of Glenn Bielen and Matteo Puffet, who made up three more places in a crazy final round. Dennis Wagemans finished fourth ahead of Mark Boot and Wesley Smolders.
In the MX2 class it became a real battlefield with Jordy Kenzeler suffering from machine trouble and dropping out of the front. Hungarian top rider Hristiyan Dakov surprisingly won the heat ahead of Maxime Colson. Mark Boot again took off like a rocket in the final series, while David Foguenne, Wesley Smolders and Karel Schepmans hit the ground in the first round. At the front, Matteo Puffet stormed forward and quickly put the race in the right shape. A successful rehearsal for the beach races where Puffet is one of the favorites. Glenn Bielen now had to do everything he could to put Mark Boot aside and finished second. Dennis Wagemans and Mark Boot battled it out until the finish for third place, which in the end went to Dennis Wagemans ahead of Mark Boot and a well-riding Pako Destercq.
So flowers for Matteo Puffet for Glenn Bielen and Dennis Wagemans. David Foguenne and Mark Boot complete the top five. In the MX2 class, Dakov was handed the victory on a platter after mechanical problems for Kenzeler and Colson, resulting in Kris Fleerackers finishing a good race in second behind Dakov.
Newcomer final
Once again a novelty at VMCF in this silly season because the Newbies, the Promising Team and the Ladies were allowed to enter the circuit for a third series for a final match. The riders responded enthusiastically and so the very first rookie final started. Yirre Saenen once again took the lead with a holeshot, but Jarno Goossens immediately responded. The Husky rider called his colleague to order, who a little later even received a visit from Maxim Lucas who had left Brenda Wagemans on the spot. Jarno Goossens would continue to keep the pace impressively high and the Belofte rider took victory in this newcomers' final ahead of Yirre Saenen and Maxime Lucas. Young lady Brenda Wagemans finished fourth ahead of Raff Dewolf and Brent Van De Walle, who was one step faster than Sem Demeester and Joshua Desmet.
forward
A successful end to a strange 2021 season that ended with a big hit in Lommel. Alain Hoolants and his crew had a particularly busy day at the Heeserbergen and were already busy preparing for the next season, which will hopefully last another full year. The calendar meeting with the candidate organizers will be the next item on the agenda. See you soon!
