VLM: BeTeMo beats RW MX Team in exciting Team Trophy!
Today, MC Liller Treffers organized the annual Team Trophy together with Everts MX Team. And was it exciting in Sint-Huibrechts Lille! The difference between the winning BeTeMo team (Greg Smets, Jens Van Meer, Sven van der Mierden) and the strong RW MX Team of Katty Vansimpsen and Werner Renders (Wietse Brackman, Kevin Fors, Tallon Verhelst) was barely two points!
Racing Center KTM (Brent Aerden, Kenny Janssens, Thomas Vermijl) finished a more than creditable third, 3 points behind RW MX Team. The Team Trophy is always a special competition and this was certainly no different. Under perfect weather conditions, the audience could enjoy a true thriller! One thing is certain: many drivers and spectators had a great time today with this special team formula.
On the occasion of the Team Trophy we also saw special trios. BeTeMo today presented the Dutch star Sven Van der Mierden. He became the star of the day with two resounding victories. Together with teammate Jens Van Meer, Van Der Mierden immediately gave BeTeMo a 1-2 start in the first round. Sven led from start to finish and Van Meer arrived at his wheel after an excellent series. Thomas Vermijl has been performing at a high level in recent weeks and now finished third.
It took some getting used to today for guest rider Wietse Brackman. The multiple MCLB champion rode a Husqvarna 250cc two-stroke. Despite the heavy four-stroke violence, he still finished fourth in the first heat. His teammate Tallon Verhelst finished fifth and that set the tone.
The teams of BeTeMo and RW MX initially did the talking, but with an excellent second round - second with Vermijl and fourth with Janssens - the Racing Center boys showed that they also had to be taken into account! The surprise of that second race, however, was the victory of Honda Vermeeren rider Jordi Van Mieghem (photo above), who left Vermijl and brand new Flemish Champion Kevin Van Geldorp behind. This became a poorer series for RW MX, partly due to Brackman's fall, while BeTeMo scored regularly.
By deleting the worst result, a lot of calculations and speculation had to be done before the final to know how the 2021 Team Trophy would turn out. However, Sven Van Der Mierden clearly did not feel like doing math. The JH MX Service-GasGas rider showed why he is so dominant in the ONK this season. After a start in the top 10, Sven rode strongly to the front and climbed to P3 behind Kevin Fors after 2 laps (photo below). A few laps later, the Husqvarna Belgium pilot also had to be killed! With the best series of the day for Tallon Verhelst in third and Brackman in sixth, RW MX scored well, but Van Der Mierden's class ultimately tipped the balance in favor of BeTeMO!
