Van Erp prevents an Italian victory in Arco
With a second and first place, Ivano van Erp managed to prevent an Italian victory in the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing. The 16-year-old rider wins in Arco di Trento ahead of Valerio Lata (1-2) and Bobby Bruce (3-4). Lata is doing well in the standings, the cheerful Italian now has a 20 point lead over Bruce. Kay Karssemakers is still fourth, but Van Erp has worked his way up to fourth place with three games to go.
Lucas Coenen (12-3) is good for fourth place today ahead of Karssemakers (5-9), who is still recovering well after a poor training session. Scott Smulders is the third KNMV rider in the top eight!
1e some
Bruce takes the best start in the first heat, the 17-year-old Briton is followed by Smulders, Lata, Andrea Viano and debutant Janis Martins Reisulis! The leader in the standings quickly pushes Smulders into third place, while Van Erp takes over fifth place from Reisulis. At the end of the second, Bruce and Lata distance themselves from Smulders, who comes under pressure from Viano and it is the Italian who takes over fourth place. Van Erp joins in and then Smulders makes a mistake and the Brabander falls. The Yamaha rider then passes Viano and the rider from Oss faces a deficit of 6 seconds. With particularly good lap times, the MJC rider manages to close his gap and that is the sign for Lata to attack Bruce. The GasGas driver cannot keep both behind him and he comes third. Lata tries to leave Van Erp behind, but Van Erp takes the lead twice. However, it is the Italian who comes back and wins the first heat ahead of Lata and Bruce. The unknown Hungarian Bence Pergel takes fourth place ahead of Karssemakers. Smulders finished eleventh ahead of Lucas Coenen while Baptiste Beernaert (27th) did not score.
2e some
In the second moto Bruce again takes the best start ahead of Lata and Viano who makes a mistake in the second corner. Van Erp immediately takes over third place, closely followed by Coenen and Smulders! In the first full lap, Van Erp manages to work his way to the lead and never relinquishes it. Lata follows like a shadow but the Yamaha rider can withstand the pressure. Coenen crosses the finish line in third place ahead of Bruce and Marc-Antoine Rossi, whom we remember from Lacapelle-Marival. Smulders crosses the finish line in sixth place, Karssemakers now takes ninth place. The rider from Boxtel returns from sixteenth place in the initial phase of this race. Again no points for Baptiste Beernaert, he crosses the finish line in 32nd.
Next time:
This championship will continue in three days, when the teenagers will race on this circuit again.
