Tim Gajser: I'm not giving up!
During the first triple-header on the beautiful Pietramurata circuit, Tim Gajser finished third in the final standings. He is now in third place after four-three heats. He is now third in the World Cup, 27 points behind leader Herlings.
Tension everywhere in the MXGP with Tim Gajser, Romain Febvre and Jeffrey Herlings pushing each other to a higher level. Gajser also won here in 2015 and in 2019, so he was very curious to see if he could close the gap at the top of the championship.
The day started slowly as Gajser only managed sixth place in qualifying, but although that is a bit below par, the start in Pietramurata is quite open. A good start is always possible at many other positions at the fence. Unfortunately, he was unable to take advantage of this in both races and had to swerve from a number of crashing riders in the chaotic first corners.
As he has proven all year, the #243 has no problem making up a large number of places on the first lap and these two motos were no exception. Many Slovenian fans had crossed the border to support their hero and they cheered the loudest when he came on stage to receive his trophy. But both she and Gajser himself will be hoping for more when the championship resumes on Wednesday, October 27, for the second of the Trentino triple-headers.
Tim Gajser: "It was a really intense day, with two very hard fought heats. I made it difficult for myself with my starts. I had to get through the field in both motos and I made up a lot of ground, but it wasn't enough to take the win. But we'll be back here on Wednesday and I know I'm very close and I certainly won't give up the fight until the end. I want to thank my team for all their work and all the fans who came here to support me. I really appreciate it and they always put a smile on my face."
