Rick Elzinga: “It kept getting better, but not the starts”
Rick Elzinga was not satisfied with ninth place in Lacapelle Marival. The TBS driver had to work very hard at the Circuit Georges Filhol but he remains third in the standings. Here the KTM rider looks back on the French GP and looks ahead to the EMX250 races in Italy.
Rick Elzinga:
“The whole day was difficult, the circuit is new to me and I had to find my feet. The setup of the engine was also not entirely satisfactory, but things were getting better, but the starts were not. I still trained to seventh place, an important starting position because overtaking is a tough job and the differences are small. I started the first heat in 15th place, after which I built up the race calmly. With ten minutes to go I took over eighth place. The seventh man was far away but I was able to maintain my pace and find the connection. In the last round the attack started and with success. The second moto started even worse, I was really in the midfield. The initial phase went very well and I was quickly able to take over sixth place. With two laps to go I made a mistake in my pursuit of the fifth man. The fall cost me about twenty seconds, so I crossed the finish line in eighth place. A difficult race but the driving got better and better, the speed was good but the starts were not. I'm looking forward to the last matches in Italy.”
