MC Mikkola wins 3-hour motocross from RES Axel!
Last weekend the annual relay motocross was held in Axel, Netherlands. A 65-hour race was planned for the young pilots on their 85cc and 2cc motorcycles, and for the older ladies and men the race was 3 hours long!
Among the 65cc pilots, the victory in the 2-hour race went to the trio: Tiago Serneels – Stan Tops and Toke Tops. This trio was clearly the faster and was four laps ahead of the team in second position: Kenzo Jaspers – Mike Pijnen and Max Pijnen. These two teams were joined on the podium by two real go-getters who had divided the two hours between themselves, namely Zani Vanoirbeek and Lucas Vergouwen.
In the 85cc class we saw an exciting race with several lead changes. The teams Ian Ampoorter/Jarne Bervoets and Brent Vandewalle/Douwe van Mechelen both went all the way. In the last twenty minutes the match eventually turned in favor of Brent Vandewalle and Douwe van Mechelen who managed to get one minute ahead of the eventual second Ian Ampoorter and Jarne Bervoets. Maeron Peeters and Max van de Ketterij were the third team to cross the finish line, but this was one lap apart.
Then on to the big boys where some well-known names were at the start such as former Grand Prix pilots: Jens Getteman, Nick Triest but also MxMag test pilot Yente Dourte. In the 3-hour category, a distinction was made between license holders and amateurs. In the amateur category the victory went to the sons of Jimmy Verburgh; Travis and Troy who formed a team with Dario Tielen for this match. The youngsters rode a 125cc GasGas motorcycle and, in addition to their victory in the amateur category, also managed to finish thirteenth overall.
For the overall victory we got a one-team show from the MC Mikkola team with home driver Mark Boot, Nick Triest and David Foquenne. It was Jens Getteman who was able to keep this team from the lead in the first rounds, but after that his teammates: Junior Decouter and David Segers could no longer make a fist against the MC Mikkola team. It shows what a superior level the winning trio toured the Axel circuit at. This was further emphasized by winning with one lap ahead of the second, a team that also consisted of top performers such as: Jens Getteman, Junior Decouter and David Segers. The team with Mats Leeuwesteijn, JordanLee van Maaren and Damian Wedage finished third on the podium. Marnick Lagrou, Alain Voermans & Michael Bryninckx finished fourth and the team of Mike Kras, supplemented by Maik Wedage & Jamie Lucas, finished in fifth position. Yente Dourte finished with his brother-in-law; Damon Tanghe and Jarno de Meuleneire twelfth.
For Mark Boot it is his third victory in the 3-hour motocross of RES Axel, which means he is one victory away from Jeffrey Dewulf, who was part of a winning team four times. If you look at the list of honors below, you will encounter beautiful people in both the Youth version and the adult editions. Perhaps a good motivation to place yourself between Jago Geerts, Rick Elzinga and the Coenen brothers in 2022, possibly with a nice sponsor, or earlier between Jurgen Wybo, Jeffrey Dewulf, Steve Ramon, Marc de Reuver, Yentel Martens, Greg Smets , Mark Boot and Nick Triest…
