Maessen wins and then again he doesn't
For the second time this year, a competition was scheduled for the ONK quad masters in Oss. On the Witte Ruijsheuvel circuit, Ruben van Lith recorded his first day victory in the ONK quad Masters with a fourth and first place in the heats. Valentino Roks achieved second place in the daily rankings with two third place finishes in the heats. Third place went to Joe Maessen. After the heat victory in the first heat, Maessen was also the fastest in the second heat.
However, the noise inspection threw a spanner in the works and he was put back five places in the heat results. This punishment could have far-reaching consequences for Maessen. Instead of being the new leader in the ONK quad masters, Maessen is now in second place in the standings, seven points behind Rick Haverdil. With the last race ahead of him this Sunday, Haverdil needs two second places to win the title. Johan Gommans took fourth place in the daily rankings and Haverdil had to make do with fifth place.
First heat
It was Maessen who was the fastest away, ahead of Roks, Haverdil Marc de Vries and van Lith. On the first lap Haverdil passed Roks and van Lith took fourth place from de Vries. This meant that the final positions for the heat results had already been taken. But the heat was certainly not without tension. Maessen moved further and further away from Haverdil and the difference only increased during the heat. Haverdil in turn ran away from Roks and crossed the finish line in second. Roks had to do everything he could to keep Lith at bay. He succeeded in this in particular by riding a strong and stronger second part of the heat. De Vries had to compete for fifth place with Gommans and Jan Vlaeymans. De Vries just managed to do this and kept both behind him. Gommans finished sixth and Jan Vlaeymans came from tenth and saw the black and white checkered just behind Gommans.
Second heat
In the second heat it was Maessen again who had the best start ahead of Haverdil, Gommans, van Lith and Jurgen Nouwen. Haverdil fell back to fourth place on the first lap and Nouwen came through in tenth. De Vries now finished fifth. In the next round Haverdil also saw Roks pass him by. Maessen now had a lead over Gommans and van Lith who were fighting for second place and Roks and Haverdil seemed to be battling for fourth place in the heat. However, halfway through the moto things went wrong for Haverdil and he fell back to tenth place in the moto. This put De Vries in fifth place, a few seconds behind Richard Ruttenberg. It took until the last lap before any position changes occurred. Van Lith passed Gommans and crossed the finish line second behind Maessen. Fourth place went to Roks. Ruttenberg overtook de Vries and passed him on the last lap. With this heat result, Maessen would have become the new leader in the standings of the ONK quad masters. However, this was not included in the noise inspection. Maessen was put back five places and with this he won the heat from Lith and also took his first victory of the day. Gommans and Roks naturally also moved up one place in the heat results. De Vries also received a penalty and this made Tim van Wee fifth in the heat.
