Lata wins, Coenen fights for a podium spot
With a second and first place, Valerio Lata managed to book his second victory of the season. The Italian won the seventh race of the European 125cc Championship Presented by FMF ahead of Lucas Coenen (1-7) and Bobby Bruce (4-3). The best Dutchman on the Arco di Trento circuit is Ivano van Erp who finished fifth ahead of Scott Smulders (6th), Kay Karssemakers (7th) and Cas Valk (8th). Lata continues to increase his lead, the Marchetti Racing rider now has a 29 point lead over Bruce. Karssemakers (17th) is still third, but 55 points behind the leader!

In the first heat Lata takes the best start ahead of Valk and Coenen. Both men manage to quickly pass the Italian and in the first full lap Bruce does the same. Coenen has now taken over the management of Valk and the Belgian immediately distances himself. Karssemakers comes tenth from the first round and Van Erp follows in fourteenth place. After a strong initial phase, Valk first sees Bruce pass and later Lata. Coenen already has an eight-second lead, which will only increase. In the second half of the match Lata manages to pass Bruce again. The 17-year-old Briton comes under pressure from Van Erp in the final phase! He shows his speed again and the MJC rider is able to take third place from Bruce in the last corner. MJC-Yamaha's success is completed by Karlis Alberts Reisulis who crosses the finish line in fifth. Valk finished seventh and he is not satisfied with that. Smulders takes eighth place and SKS Racing driver Karssemakers crosses the finish line in tenth.

When the starting gate for the second heat fell, Coenen seemed to take the holeshot, but Janis Martins Reisulis was just too quick. The Latvian takes the lead ahead of the Belgian and the Czech Julius Mikula. Lata follows in fourth place, with Van Erp and Valk behind him. While Valk chooses the outside, Mikula makes a mistake and that gets Van Erp into trouble. The Yamaha rider crashes and has to give chase. Coenen tries to take over the lead but makes a mistake, losing places. A little later, 14-year-old Coenen made another mistake. This means he comes out of the first round in fifteenth place! Leader Reisulis makes a mistake in the second laps and this crash allows Lata to take the lead from Valk. During the first half of the race, the rider from Nijverdal manages to keep the leader in sight, but a small slide ensures that Reisulis returns to second place. With less than five minutes to go, Valk makes another mistake, losing third place to Bruce. This means that the top three are known, but that does not mean that it is not a great competition because there is fighting everywhere! Karlis Alberts Reisulis crosses the finish line in fourth place ahead of Karssemakers, Smulders and Coenen, who tries everything to take over sixth place. The 16-year-old Valk scores well again with ninth place. Van Erp crashes again in the early stages, but he still comes back strong to eleventh place! Ten Kate is now good for 27th position when the checkered flag falls.
Next time:
Next Saturday the third and final race on the circuit. This will be followed by a race on the Mantova circuit.
