Jeffrey Herlings wins exciting GP of France
Jeffrey Herlings and Romain Febvre made it quite a spectacle for two series, but in the end the GP win went to the Red Bull KTM rider. Things are now getting a lot more exciting at the top of the rankings.
Antonio Cairoli was the first to start in the second series, but had to let Herlings and Febvre through a few corners later when he took a wrong track. Van Horebeek was behind the starting gate again and came 8th after a few lapsth past. Herlings seemed to have the intention to pull away from Febvre because after a few laps he had gained a 3 second lead. But the Frenchman was massively encouraged by the home crowd today and closed the gap on Herlings.
In lap 6 Herlings had a small crash and Febvre was able to take over the leading position. The tifosi went into collective ecstasy, propelling the Kawasaki rider forward with shouts and a series of chainsaws. In the meantime, Tim Gajser had his hands full trying to get past Cairoli after a poor first series and Jorge Prado was again driving without color in P13.
Jeffrey Herlings regained focus with five minutes of the race left and pulled towards Febvre's rear wheel. In the 16de round, The Bullet takes the lead again and Gajser finally passes Cairoli. Herlings could not afford a single mistake because Febvre was never far away in those last two laps. Herlings, however, remained clear and won his 95th GP of his career.
In the standings for the world championship, Herlings has again become the leader at the expense of Gajser. He is 6 points ahead of Romain Febvre and 10 points ahead of Tim Gajser. Prado is losing touch with the top and is now 62 points behind. The next competition will be held in Spain next week.
