Duncan wins Spanish GP ahead of Van de Ven
For the third time this season, Courtney Duncan wins a WMX Grand Prix. On the Arroyomolinos circuit, the New Zealander wins with a second and first place ahead of Nancy van de Ven (1-2) and Kiara Fontanesi (3-3). Duncan is doing well in the title battle, increasing her lead to 16 points with one more match on the calendar. Van de Ven has 28 points than the 'Redplate' holder.
Amandine Verstappen is good for sixth place today, the Dutch ladies have to settle for a supporting role. Shana van der Vlist finished ninth today due to a slide in the second heat. Lynn Valk takes tenth place, while Britt Jans-Beken is twelfth today. Danee Gelissen and Stephanie Stoutjesdijk score during the second heat. Demi Verploegh unfortunately remains scoreless near Madrid.

The small but brave Shana van der Vlist boldly takes the lead during the first heat. She is followed by Van de Ven and the Spanish Gabriela Seisdedos. This of course immediately creates extra atmosphere because the audience shouts the 26-year-old KTM rider forward. Van de Ven quickly takes the lead while Fontanesi works his way up to second place on the first lap. Duncan hasn't had the best start and she starts this heat over 20 minutes and two laps narrowly in the top ten. The 25-year-old New Zealander is coming up quickly and quickly enters the top three. In the second full laps Fontanesi takes the lead, a lap later Duncan also passes Van de Ven. The reigning champion catches up with the GasGas rider and with more than five minutes left on the clock the first attack occurs. The ladies hit each other and Fontanesi falls. Duncan can continue and seems to win this heat. Then the DRT driver makes a mistake and grabs her handlebars while changing her visor. The Kawasaki rider crashes and Van de Ven is able to regain the lead. The first heat victory is then a fact for the Zeelander. Duncan is a close second ahead of Fontanesi. Van der Vlist, I have to give up fourth place on the last lap. Larissa Papenmeier takes over and the Apeldoorn native finishes fifth. Verstappen (6th) and Valk (8th) score well while Britt Jans-Beken crosses the finish line in fourteenth. Stephanie Stoutjesdijk (21st), Demi Verploegh (22nd) and Danee Gelissen (25th) unfortunately did not score.

Van der Vlist also seems to have the best start in the second heat, but Papenmeier narrowly manages to prevent that. Van de Ven follows in third place ahead of Duncan and the American Jamie Astudillo. Fontanesi hasn't had the best start and needs to work his way forward. In the first full lap, Duncan takes the lead from Papenmeier, after which the two-time champion cannot be traced. Van de Ven comes second ahead of Fontanesi who has a moment when she brakes her machine silently. This causes Van der Vlist to get into trouble and has to fight back from the backfield. The Italian will come back to Van de Ven, but third place is hers when the checkered flag falls. Sara Andersen comes fourth ahead of Papenmeier who is put under pressure by Daniela Guillen. Verstappen returns from fifteenth place to seventh. Van der Vlist can still collect ten points by crossing the finish line in eleventh. Valk rode with the leading group in the initial phase, but she made a mistake that dropped her back to fifteenth place. Jans-Beken scores nicely in thirteenth place, Gelissen comes 16th and Stoutjesdijk takes the last point during this round.
Next time:
The final of this championship is not long in coming. The sixth and final match is next Saturday in Arco di Trento. Can Fontanesi win her seventh world title or will Duncan grab her third in a row?
