Bax/Musset win in Oss, still every chance for World Cup title candidates Vanluchene and Veldman
Bax/Musset managed to win the first World Cup heat in Oss. Vanluchene/Bax came second and Hermans/Janssens would come third. World Championship leader Veldman/Cermak had to come from behind but still finished fourth.
There was a big start for team Vanluchene/Bax, with Hermans/Janssens right next to them in the first corner and then Bax/Musset in third place. At the bottom of the second corner there was a traffic jam and Van der Veldt/Van der Veldt unfortunately had to drop out due to a foot injury. World Championship leader Veldman/Cermak also stood still in this sidecar melee! After just under a minute's delay they were able to continue. Veldman/Cermak finished ninth after the first lap. In the second lap Bax passed Hermans and took the lead one lap later at the expense of Vanluchene!
Behind them it was Hermans/Janssens on three, Varik/Kunnas on four, Van Werven/Van den Boogaart on five and Keuben/Rietman on six. Veldman was now seventh after four laps, joining the group in front of him. After twenty minutes of play, Veldman/Cermak had suddenly reached five by passing Keuben. Van Werven, who was riding fifth, unfortunately dropped out, so Veldman also moved on.
Varik/Kunas on four also suddenly disappeared! A gift that Veldman wholeheartedly accepted because it suddenly put Veldman/Cermak in fourth place. At the front there was no problem for Bax/Musset who managed to win the first heat in Oss with flying colors! Vanluchene/Bax then finished a distant second and thus equaled Bax/Musset in World Championship points on 217 points. Hermans/Janssens then finished third in no one's country. Veldman/Cermak limited the damage with a fourth place and saw the fifth-placed Keuben/Rietman come very close in the last lap, but the positions remained the same at the finish
All three World Cup title contenders still have a chance of winning the title with two heats to go on Sunday in which 50 points can be distributed. However, the cards are stacked differently with Bax/Musset and Vanluchene/Bax both in the lead with 217 points and Veldman/Cermak just behind with 214 points.
Tomorrow we will see in Oss who can call themselves the 2021 Sidecar Cross World Champion!
