VLM: Yentel Martens triumphs, Brent Aerden impresses
After the impressive cross in Herenthout, this week it was the turn of MC De Vennecrossers in Houtvenne. It was no big surprise that Yentel Martens was allowed to return to Lommel with the victory flowers. The way Brent Aerden - second overall - showed up at De Donken was!
That top day in Aerden (photo below) started off strong because the MC De Stroeckxvrienden rider actually sent his KTM SX250F to the fastest time in qualifying in the morning! Guest rider Yentel Martens followed at 0,8 seconds. Some trendsetters from the past few weeks, such as Jens Van Meer (holiday), Kevin Fors and Wesley Dieudonné, were unfortunately not present.
JM Honda Racing's Yentel Martens was there. And how! In the first series, Martens made it a 'walk-over'. He led every lap of the race and finished with a 20 second bonus on Brent Aerden! Aerden was briefly knocked back to fifth place due to a slide, but then recovered to P2.
For Jilani Cambré it was a day of dealing with pain after his fall last week. The hip caused him more trouble than expected. In the opener, the WMX Shop Yamaha rider had to settle for fourth place ahead of Steve 'Rocket' Seronval and Jonas Salaets.
Brent Aerden in top form
It had been a while, but in the second round multiple MCLB champion Seronval (photo below) once again had a top start! Steve was allowed to delight his supporters with the leadership for a while, but had to make way for Martens after two laps. Anyone who saw a repeat of the first series in the offing was in for a treat. Cambré kept the contact but especially the very strong quarter liter, Brent Aerden would cause a stir!
Aerden rose from P4 to P2 and once Brent had settled into second place, he was the fastest man in the race. The audience held their breath for a moment, would the Racing Center KTM pilot “Y-Mart” be brought back? It didn't get that far. Martens finished the job with routine for Aerden, who had made an impression. Behind him, Cambré was satisfied that he had struggled through the day. Thanks to a third and second place, he was second on the 500cc podium ahead of Kevin Van Geldorp (2-7). Ex VLM Inters Champion Kenny Janssens had difficulty getting into his rhythm in the first heat, but he did take a decent fifth place in heat two.
Arno Van Mieghem also did better after the break. He seriously struggled with sore arms in the first series. Fortunately, the closing went better for the Vermeeren Honda pilot, he finished 6th in the 500cc and 7th in the final standings. Brother Jordi recorded his umpteenth 4th place of the season today! However, persistence wins, although Van Mieghem was already very close again. Van Geldorp had one point more. In the first series he got off to an excellent start, hanging second behind Martens for a long time, but after a mistake he had to settle for 7th place, despite a bent handlebar. In the second heat he finished fourth.
Appointment next weekend in Broechem (Ranst) where the Stroeckx friends will take care of the furnishings. Click here for the video of the VLM in Houtvenne
