VLM Broechem: Victory Martens, Van Geldorp consolidates leadership position
When Yentel Martens is at the start at VLM, the competition has already been warned in advance! That was no different today in Broechem. The JM Honda Racing rider won both motos while Dieter Vromans did the same at the Inters 250!
As always, the organization of MC De Stroeckxvrienden could count on a lot of interest from the public. The improved layout of the circuit was also appreciated. Martens set the fastest time in the morning ahead of Jens Van Meer, Jilani Cambré and Kenny Janssens.
Who else than Yentel Martens?
Unsurprisingly, Martens kept it simple. In the first heat, the Limburg beach racing specialist led from start to finish. Yet there were extenuating circumstances for his closest rivals. BeTeMo leader Jens Van Meer missed his start but managed to recover from outside the top 10 to second place. Veteran Kenny Janssens also completed an excellent first sprint. Kenny was in P2 for almost the entire race, only in the last part of the race he had to pass for Van Meer. As a consolation prize, Janssens did win the fastest lap of the race!
Although he did not stand out much, Kevin Van Geldorp immediately did well in the championship. Kevin finished fourth while his rival encountered too much drama in the first round. Fortunately without much damage, but more than a seventh place was not possible for Cambré. At the Inters 250 we saw Dieter Vromans once again firing hard in the old-fashioned way. Starting in the top 10, he crossed the line in sixth place overall and the first quarter of a mile.
Van Meer persists, Martens repeats himself
The second race yielded few surprises. Yet it was certainly an educational exercise for Van Meer (photo above). Starting second after Martens, Jens kept pace for a while. For a moment he was even the fastest man in the race until “Y-Mart” stepped up his game or it was over for Van Meer? In any case, the difference at the finish was almost identical to the first race. Kevin “Mr. Consistency” Van Geldorp turned around again with the regularity of a Swiss watch and thus kept Jilani Cambré behind him. Thanks to that 4-3 score, Kevin was allowed to participate on the final podium.
Arno Van Mieghem just missed out on the top 5 in the final standings, although he finished fifth twice and clearly felt good on the Honda. For MC De Stroeckxvrienden home rider Brent Aerden, the race at Van Den Nestlaan did not bring what he expected. Certainly not considering his recent top form. After an early fall, Aerden was making a strong recovery when he was hit in the side on the fourth lap. With sore ribs, Brent had no choice but to finish twice.
Dieter Vromans repeated his feat of the first race. His sixth place gave him a logical overall victory in the Inters 250 ahead of Kristof Scheynen (2-2) and Gille Giel (4-3). Also notable was the occasional performance by ex-European champion Christof Godrie. He finished sixteenth in series 2.
Next weekend VLM will go to the “Klak” in Reet where MC De Kleiduivels will ensure everything runs smoothly.
