US Honda team manager Erik Kehoe is retiring
Just over a week after Jett Lawrence won the 2021 AMA Pro Motocross 250MX Championship, Erik Kehoe announced he will step down as Manager of Team Honda HRC in the US.
The Californian, who has been at the head of the team since 2018, is leaving the racing world and will focus on his private life. Kehoe was a Honda-backed professional racer in the 80s and 90s. He subsequently led the Honda of Troy/Yamaha of Troy racing program for seven seasons. He also previously managed the factory team from the 2002 to 2012 season. With Erik Kehoe, Team Honda HRC won five AMA Pro Motocross National Championships and two AMA Supercross Championships.
Erik Kehoe: “This decision to retire has been very difficult, but at the same time I know it is time to slow down,” Kehoe said. “I would like to especially thank American Honda, and Manager of Sports & Experiential Brandon Wilson in particular, for giving me the opportunity to return to the team this final time. I really wanted to help Honda gain positive momentum in supercross and motocross, and this past season I think the team had a lot of success. I have really enjoyed my time here, but it is time to focus on some personal projects that I have been putting off for a while.”
“I'd be lying if I said we weren't disappointed to see Erik leave,” Wilson said. “Anyone who has ever been in racing knows how busy that world can be, but Erik always manages to not only keep everything organized and running smoothly, but also to do so with a respectful, diplomatic approach that maintains harmony. within the team. Although I am sad to see him go, I am happy for him that he can enjoy this next phase of his life. On behalf of the team and everyone at Honda and HRC, we would like to thank him for all his hard work and leadership, and we wish him all the best.”
Kehoe will remain on board for part of the off-season to help the team transition to a new manager. Honda will announce Kehoe's replacement at a later date.
