Strong British Team for MXON
British team manager Mark Chamberlain has selected a strong trio for the Motocross of Nations in Mantova. The British reached the podium in Assen in 2019. With Ben Watson (MXGP), Conrad Mewse (MX2) and Shaun Simpson, they are once again contenders for a medal.
watch here the current overview of all teams.
Ben Watson makes his return to MXON for Team GB after competing in the MX2018 class in 2. The 24-year-old Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider is currently in the top 10 of the MXGP standings, with a fifth place during the Oss GP as an outlier.
Conrad Mewse, the confirmed British MX2 champion, will compete in the MX2 class on his Hitachi KTM Fueled by Milwaukee bike. Mewse is not exactly the regular man at World Cup level, but when he has his day he is lightning fast. It will be his first time participating in the MXON. Conrad is a strong sand rider and during the GP in Lommel he proved that he has the pace to compete at the front of the MX2.
This year Shaun Simpson (SS24 KTM MXGP) will compete in the MX Open class. Shaun goes into the 2021 edition of the MXON as Team GB's most experienced rider. He reached the podium in 2019 with Nathan Watson and Adam Sterry at his side.
Team manager Mark Chamberlain: “I am happy with the selection and feel that this is the right team to go to Italy and represent us. Ben has ridden well in the GPs all year. Conrad was in good form in the British Championship, had some health problems but is now returning to form at the right time. Shaun is also starting to get into shape and I always like to have someone with a lot of experience in the team. We look forward to putting our best foot forward for Team GB!”
