PR: Dean Gregoire fifth to the EMX final
Dean Gregoire has managed to qualify for the grand final of the European 85cc Championship. A special achievement by the Brabander who is the youngest finalist ever in the EMX85. The KTM rider turned eleven years old last month. At the Kaplice circuit, the Team Youth Pro MX rider finished sixth in the overall standings and fifth in the EMX85 North-West. In the 65cc, Elvis Totney (11th) and Chento van Zoest (19th) managed to get into the points.
EMX85:
On Saturday, Dean starts qualifying as leader, but a small slip throws a spanner in the works. With a fourth place he managed to qualify well for the heats on Sunday. The first moto starts well and the Alpinestars-clad crosser comes out of the first corner in second place. In the initial phase, second places are lost, but he can hold on to fourth place for a long time. The riders behind him are faster but he is unable to pass until the last lap. At the hairpin bend after the descent, the fifth man revs his engine hard. This collision destroys Dean's gas tank, but luckily he can continue. With ninth place he still scores well. This hard attack hits Dean
After replacing the tank and radiator, Dean starts full of energy during the last round of this series. The start is reasonable and the Geldrop-born rider starts the race around tenth place. He comes forward with some help from mistakes made by other riders. Dean is not really comfortable in the race, probably due to the choice of tires. A paddle tire was chosen because it was an advantage, especially at the start and uphill. However, the circuit became increasingly cleaner and therefore hard parts emerged. Dean resolved it nicely by calmly continuing to ride his own race. With seventh place he scores well again and the final place is a fact.
Michel Gregoire's response:
“Dean showed very nice things this weekend. Saturday in particular exceeded expectations by taking the lead in the qualifying match. It was a little less on Sunday, but the result was good. We are very proud of Dean! He showed very consistent results during the six heats and thus qualified for the EMX final. Our goal for the past three competitions was to reach the final and we achieved this with fifth place in the final standings.”
EMX65:
Elvis managed to end this series of three matches well with an eleventh place in the daily rankings. The Briton finishes eleventh and thirteenth during the heats. Chento also managed to finish in the points in both heats. The Limburger finished 20th and 16th during this race to end the series in tenth. Yuel Karnebeek (24-33) and Noam Mezzavilla (DNF-27) unfortunately did not score any points. Unfortunately, the Belgian did not finish the first heat after a major crash. Later in the afternoon he fought back the pain to cross the finish line in 27th place.
Next time:
The EMX final will be held in Riola Sardo, Italy, in two weeks. Hopefully we will see more riders from the Team Youth Pro MX in action there.
