No Motor Show in January?
The annual Car and Motorcycle Show in Brussels is once again hanging by a thread after last year's cancellation. Then the corona crisis threw a spanner in the works, but now there is a completely different reason.
A number of brands threw in the towel and will not participate in the Brussels Motor Show as the event is currently called in mid-January 2022. Febiac has now received cancellations from Volvo and the D'Ieteren brands Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini. Mazda announced on Wednesday that it would not participate.
All eyes are now on the Stellantis brands Peugeot, Fiat, Opel, Citroën and Jeep. If they drop out, the rest won't participate either. Moreover, Febiac states that the Motor Show can take place if more than 75% of the brands participate, which would not be the case if the Stellantis group drops out.
We have not yet received any messages from motorcycle manufacturers whether or not they would participate. Febiac has not yet asked them about possible participation. However, if the Motor Show cannot take place, the Motor Show will also be cancelled. The Piaggio group has already announced that it will not participate.
The trend of major car manufacturers turning their noses at the major car shows has been around for some time. The IAA Frankfurt recently fell for the same reason. A final decision will be made on Friday whether the Motor Show will go ahead, it became apparent on Wednesday morning after a management meeting at the automotive federation and organizer Febiac. By then, all car and motorcycle brands must indicate whether they are participating or not.
