Unmistakable wake-up call from Lommel
After the revocation of the environmental permit of Honda Park in Olmen and the 'renewed permit under conditions' of the Municipal Motorcross Center in Lommel, all lights of everyone involved in the sport are flashing red.
We have seen that a single person can paralyze a circuit and that the Council of State can interpret existing legislation in a way that can directly endanger the still existing circuits in Flanders. We cannot help but reflect the realism that within the existing context, within a very short time, not a single motocross circuit in Flanders will have an environmental permit.
In that respect, the status of the motocross circuit in Lommel is very important. An unmistakable message appeared on Lommel's Instagram page today. “If Lommel falls it is done, over, finished with motocross in Belgium.” The track in Lommel is the center of the world in motocross country. A lot of motocross-related industry is in the immediate vicinity, manufacturing and developing high-end products. Also just across the border in the Netherlands there are a lot of companies and MXGP teams that also need a circuit like that of Lommel.
The message is clear: if Lommel falls, it will be a piece of cake for the opponents of the remaining motocross tracks in our country to close them as well. In Lommel and by extension the operators of the other tracks only ask one thing from the motocross riders: come ride with an original exhaust or a dB killer. See the cry for help from Lommel below.
