MX2 Afyon: Vialle wins, Renaux strengthens leadership position
Thanks to a perfect second moto, Tom Vialle (Red Bull KTM) took the lead again. In the first round, World Championship leader Maxime Renaux (Monster Energy Yamaha) won ahead of Vialle. Renaux, who finished second in the repeat, is further ahead of Mattia Guadagnini (3-6) in the World Championship standings.
Renaux narrowly took pole in the morning and caught up with compatriot Vialle after a few laps in the first race. The impressive Yamaha rider was in a class of his own and crossed the finish line with a lead of more than 17 (!) seconds. There was plenty to do behind Renaux and Vialle. From P3 to P8 the differences were small and every mistake was immediately punished. Geerts achieved his best run of the day in fourth, Kay De Wolf came in seventh.
Vialle from start to finish
The holeshot was claimed in the second moto by Vialle and he immediately took control of the race. Apparently without too much effort he made a gap on Renaux. With this, the reigning world champion drove to his third GP victory of the year. He is now ninth in the standings.
Renaux had a problem with the glasses but did not make any excuses afterwards. This time, just like on Saturday, Beaton was the best of the 'chasing group'. In the battle for fifth place, things got quite tense between Red Bull KTM colleagues Rene Hofer and Mattia Guadagnini. However, Hofer came out on top.
Next time:
There is no GP on the program this weekend, the Sardinian GP will follow on September 19 on the sand circuit of Riola Sardo.
