Lucas Coenen is crowned French 125cc champion
Generations come and go, but the French championship has been the cradle of Europe for future champions for some time now. It is precisely in France that 14-year-old Lucas Coenen (9MM Bud Racing Kawasaki) takes the 125cc title. His twin brother Sacha is vice champion.
It was clear as day that one of the Coenen brothers would become French 125cc champion. Last year Sacha was already French 85cc champion.
However, to know who would take the title, we had to wait until the final round of the championship. Before the final in Villars-sous-Ecot, the difference was barely eleven points, in favor of Lucas Coenen. The Topsport Motorsport Vlaanderen rider won no less than 7 of the 12 heats, brother Sacha took care of four. Only Xavier Cazal, the third rider in the championship, was able to steal a series from the “Coenen bros” in Castelnau-de-lévis!
To be prepared for any possible outcome, Bud Racing had created a champion jersey and special license plate for both drivers. However, due to the lead with which Lucas started the race, he only had two second places behind his brother. That does not mean that Lucas Coenen took a day off. In the first round the match again turned into a thriller between the two Belgians. Sacha won with Lucas in his wheel by just over a second.
The last series of the season turned out to be a real demonstration for Sacha Coenen. De led from start to finish while champion Lucas had to come back after a bad start. In the end, Lucas now finished with more than 20 seconds.
