Liam Everts makes great debut in MX2 World Championship!
Last weekend Liam Everts made his debut in the MX2 class of the Motocross World Championship. He did this during the MXGP of Sardinia in Riola Sardo, where an unforgiving sand circuit through the dunes awaited the riders.
Due to the 'Fesh-Fesh' type of sand, this circuit has an extra level of difficulty. Finding a good rhythm or the fastest lines is not always easy because the lines keep changing and the tracks simply disappear in this very thin beach sand. Liam mastered the track well and qualified twenty-third.
In the first heat Liam didn't start well, finishing fourteenth. In the first part of the race he fought to stay in fourteenth place, but in the second part of the race he lost a few positions. This ultimately resulted in a sixteenth place at the finish. The start of the second moto was slightly better, he finished in thirteenth place. Immediately the KTM rider found his pace and rhythm and within a few laps we saw Liam take over eleventh place. The youngster continued to push and fight for a place in the top ten. Completely sore and cramped from racing on this unique, monstrous, insane but also beautiful circuit in Riola Sardo, Liam finished just a few seconds outside the top ten in eleventh.
The results of the first heat and the second heat resulted in a thirteenth place overall! A great result for his first World Cup race.
Now we go straight to next weekend and the “Motocross of Nations” in Mantova, also in Italy. Due to the effect of COVID19 on our calendar, the “MXON” will not be the traditional closing of the season as usual. This means that some teams and riders have decided not to participate, to avoid all risks. When Jago Geerts and his team made the decision not to participate, it created an opportunity for Liam. It is clear that Liam is happy with the opportunity given to gain experience in this special event. He will compete for Belgium in the MX2 class together with Brent Vandoninck (MX Open) and Cyril Genot (MXGP).
