ISDE: Belgians have reached the top 10!
The Belgian team's insistence was rewarded today with their entry into the top 10! An excellent Erik Willems was again the pacesetter, but Open World Cup 4S champion Dietger Damiaens also performed well.
On the Dutch side, both Thierry Pittens and Daan Bruijsten had a good day! The Austrians' 14th place is certainly still achievable.
Belgium has to make do without leader Antoine Magain and World Cup Open 4S vice-champion Mathias Van Hoof. As a result, a top-10 place was the target and Team Belgium is therefore in the right flow.
Briefly noted
- Erik Willems (picture above) took a bit of time to get going. After that the driving got better and better. That good feeling was even translated into times approaching the top 30. Willems is now 38th in scratch.
- Also Dietger Damiaens (photo above) continues to grow in this ISDE. Damiaens feels more comfortable, but had to deal with a fall in the penultimate special of the enduro test. Conditionally, the former Belgian MX champion is very strong, which bodes well for the final days when the “Six Days” will really be a battle of attrition!
- The third rider of the Belgian World Trophy team, Gauthier Lillo, is in balance with Junior Henson Lievens. On day three Lillo came out on top. Yesterday that was GasGas driver Lievens.
- The third day is traditionally a turning point when many riders leave the race. However, all Belgian club riders are still in the race. Including the young rookies Arthur Sente en Nicolas Vandommele. Well done guys!
- Nice day for Thierry Pittens! The JTX driver is really getting going now. A jump from P58 to P54 was the reward
- Daan Bruijsten (photo above) followed the example of teammate Pittens and made even more progress. From P69 to P58, well done.
- After the tragic death of Arnold Staal yesterday, the Dutch MCCZ club team no longer started.
- New routes, and four new tests that the riders are collectively craving because all tests were already having a hard time.
- Mike Bokslag suffered from some motor problems. The KTM no longer ran as it should all day, but every effort was made to solve the problem. Hopefully get better tomorrow.
- In the Junior Trophy, Team NL increases from ten to nine due to the withdrawal of Finland.
