Herlings gives Team NL pole position!
Reigning MX of Nations champion Jeffrey Herlings displayed his mastery in the final Open qualifying race. He turned a start at the back of the field into a victory with a 6,5 second lead over Henry Jacobi. Brent Van Doninck finished 14th for Team Belgium.
After David Goosen's fantastic start in the MX2, the South Africans once again disbanded their starting devils. Tristan Purdon steered his KTM into the holeshot ahead of Tom Macuks and Bastian Boegh Damm. In his first race on the 450, Mathys Boisramé (photo below) gave his calling card. the F&H Racing Kawasaki rider became the first full leader.
Without taking any risks, Herlings had now started a strong recovery. At the end of the opening lap, 'the Bullet' was already circulating in P9. He then rolled onto the entire field with four laps to go, and leader Henry Jacobi also had to suffer. The JM Honda Racing rider had started well and had taken over the lead from 450 rookie Bosramé.
In addition to Macuks' nice 5th place, we especially noted the strong performance of Arminas Jasikonis. Almost to the day a year ago, Jasikonis scored a death blow in Mantova. Today the Tall Lithuanian overcame his demons. After a 4th fastest time in free practice, he finished 3rd in the qualifying race. Thanks to AJ, Lithuania also qualified for the A final.
Brent Van Doninck hung 17th after the opening lap and arrived 14th after an unremarkable moto. Click here for the country rankings after the qualifications.
