Amber Simons many sizes too big for competition
Amber Simons achieved her second victory of the day in the women's class in Berghem. At the Nieuw Zevenbergen motor park she was many sizes too big and won both heats. Daniëlle van Kempen was “best of the rest” with two second place finishes in the heats. After twice finishing third in the heats, Sarah Bergsma was able to take her place on the lowest step of the podium. Noor Bergsma and Kim Peters completed the top five.
In the standings for the National Championships, Simons is in the lead with 28 points ahead of van Kempen. Sarah Bergsma follows on 26 points. From third place onwards the differences are always very small and a nice battle seems to be developing for the last podium place in the championship.
First heat
It was Simons who was the fastest ahead of Van Kempen, Noor Bergsma and Janna Vos. On the first passage of the finish, Vos had already dropped out of the top five. Sarah Bergsma had already passed her sister and came third. Stacey Nooijens reported in fifth place. Noor Bergsma ran into problems on the next lap and fell behind Nooijens and Kim Peters. In the following lap, Peters passed Nooijens to continue her progress after a fall at the start. In the meantime, Simons already had a big lead over van Kempen, with Sarah Bergsma close behind. Peters ran into problems again and fell back to fifth place. This determined the positions in the heat. Simons finished 60 seconds ahead of van Kempen. Sarah Bergsma, in turn, had to leave a big gap to Van Kempen and crossed the finish line in third place. Noor Bergsma took fourth place and Peters finished the heat in fifth.
Second heat
Once again it quickly became clear that the difference between Simons and the rest is far too big. Once again she took the holeshot and the battle for heat victory was quickly over. Behind her, it was Nooijens who came second on the first passage to the finish line, ahead of Sarah Bergsma, Van Kempen and Nina Dijkman. After a fall, Peters again had to rely on a chase. It was quickly Dijkman who fell back and it was Noor Bergsma who was now fifth. After three laps the difference was made in the battle from second place. Nooijens was passed by Van Kempen and Sarah Bergsma and it was Nooijens who decided the battle in her favor. Nooijens managed to hold on to fourth place ahead of an oncoming Peters, who passed Noor Bergsma on the final lap and claimed fifth place. All this happened well behind Simons, who ultimately completed a full lap more than the entire field of participants in the women's class.
