Haarup close to its best seasonal result
In a particularly warm and sunny Afyonkarahisar, Mikkel Haarup managed to score eighth place during the eighth Grand Prix of the season. The Dane managed to recover well in Turkey after a difficult first heat to finish eighth later in the afternoon. Mathys Boisrame was in eighth place for the first heat, but due to a small mistake in the final phase he finished tenth. The victory went to Tom Vialle, his compatriot Maxime Renaux remains the leader in the standings.
1st Heat:
The Kawasaki riders enter the first round with a ninth and tenth training time for Mathys and Mikkel. The sprint to the first corner is always special and this is not possible without the necessary contact. Mathys comes out of the first corner in about tenth place. He then quickly worked his way to seventh place behind compatriot Renaux. This one of course gets the full brunt, but the Leatt-clad crosser cannot take over sixth place. A little later Fernandez passes by and halfway through the heat Benistant also connects. The EMX250 champion briefly takes over eighth place from Mathys, but he doesn't change his mind for a moment and comes back immediately. With two laps to go, Mathys makes a small mistake that causes him to tip over. He loses two places because Benistant and Geerts pass by. The chase starts, but Mathys has to settle for tenth place. Mikkel starts 17th and works his way up to fifteenth place, but then he crashes. A hard battle ensues but the Dane comes back to sixteenth place, but in the last lap it is Pancar who surprises him and Mikkel takes four points with 17th place.
2st Heat:
When the starting gate for the second heat goes down, Mikkel gets away well and immediately claims a spot in the top ten. His teammate is having problems because he falls and needs a lot of time to get back into the game. The Frenchman comes out of the first lap almost 60 seconds behind the last. While many others would leave the match, that never crosses Mathys' mind. Mikkel has made up a spot in the first round, but then Benistant passes. After three laps Mikkel manages to regain the lost position. The pace increases and the arrows are aimed at Todd's seventh place. However, the Australian cannot be outdone and Mikkel takes eighth place. Mathys is closing his gap and catching up with his predecessors, but his great efforts are not rewarded, the 250 EMX2018 champion crosses the finish line in 21st place and therefore does not score any World Championship points.
Next game:
The bikes are quickly prepared by the mechanics because tomorrow the starting gate will close again. The ninth GP of the season will also be held at the Afyon Motor Sports Center.
