Grant Langston provides an update
Grant Langston's abrupt end as a commentator on NBC's Pro Motocross Series has caused quite a stir. The former 125cc world champion was suddenly no longer welcome at the Ironman National because he had not been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Riders such as Cooper Webb, Justin Barcia, Dean Wilson, Hunter Lawrence, Austin Forkner and others responded to his post, praising Grant for his honesty and integrity. Other industry celebrities and former racers such as Ryan Villopoto, Robbie Madison, Johnny O'Mara, Greg Albertyn and more also showed their support in the comments for Grant Langston.
Following the event, Grant Langston provided more text and explanation. He was asked to submit a negative corona test in order to report as a TV commentator during the Ironman National. He understood this and so a test was taken that showed negative.
Grant Langston: “I had a negative test but apparently that wasn't enough. They can say whatever they want, but they took the path of least resistance. You're not welcome this weekend. Because I was exposed. I hate that term because no one knows if I was exposed or not. “
“You know, it was frustrating to be told I had to stay home. In my opinion, I was only being punished for not being vaccinated. And to make matters worse, no one had the decency or respect to call me and let me know I was being replaced. I started hearing rumors on Thursday just before I had to leave for the airport. I had to call and text multiple people to find out. Yes, it was true, I was replaced.”
“Now, to elaborate a little more on my decision, I am not an anti-vaxxer and I have obviously had vaccines from childhood through adulthood. However, I am someone who will ask questions and be a bit skeptical. Also, I come from a country that is not heavily vaccinated and funnily enough, there are much fewer cases of diseases and problems.”
“I have a son who has autism and I saw a 2-year-old child who was very normal get a lot of shots and then within months I saw him deteriorate and that was very difficult as a parent. That's why I tried to find answers. And it's kind of like this vaccine, it's basically no questions asked, “Shut up and do as you're told.” Trump said, “take it,” Biden said, “take it.” But hey, I've never listened to politicians, and I'm not going to start now. If this vaccine is as good as they say it is, why are vaccinated people so concerned about people who are not vaccinated?”
“So again, I am not an anti-vaxxer and if I believe this vaccine is good for me and the people around me. I just want to wait and see some studies before I opt for the vaccine. I've had COVID. I believe I had it in January 2020 after the Anaheim Supercross. Many people became very ill. I remember saying this was the worst flu I ever had, but that was before we really knew anything about it, so I can only speculate.”
