Vanluchene/Bax win mini GP Oostrozebeke!
Marvin Vanluchene, together with racing driver Robbie Bax, won the international sidecar cross on his home soil of Oostrozebeke. Van Werven/Van den Boogaart finished second and Vandaele/Smeuninx finished third on the podium of the mini-GP in Oostrozebeke.
A high-quality starting field was lined up behind the starting gate in Oostrozebeke. Not only GP Sidecar teams from Belgium and the Netherlands were on the list, but also strong teams from elsewhere such as the English team Brown/Millard and the Swiss Heinzer/Schelbert. Partly due to initiator Marc Vandaele van Meor, the race could rightly be called a mini-GP.
The first heat gave the home fans reason to cheer as Vanluchene/Bax decisively crossed the finish line. Van Werven/Van den Boogaart came second and in third place we saw Vandaele/Smeuninx.
The second round was a prey for the Dutch/Czech tandem of Veldman/Cermak. They were already well on their way in the first heat, but shortly after the start the Veldman team dropped out. Now in the second heat they left no stone unturned and Veldman/Cermak added a heat victory. There was good reason for the home crowd to cheer again. Although Veldman was the strongest in the second round, he no longer participated in the final result after dropping out earlier in the first round. Vanluchene/Bax still fought for this and with a nice second place in the second heat, the day's victory was taken with flying colours. Van Werven/Van den Boogaart were also doing well again and finished third and Vandaele/Smeuninx finished fourth. In fact, it was again the result of the first heat for these teams, but now they were all one spot back as that smart 'frogg' Veldman took first place in the second heat.
It would have been a proverbial sausage for Vanluchene/Bax, Van Werven/Van den Boogaart and Vandaele/Smeuninx. These three teams were hoisted onto the final podium in the same order as they always crossed the finish line. For example, Vanluchene/Bax were crowned victors in Oostrozebeke, West Flanders, ahead of Van Werven/Van den Boogaart in second place and Vandaele/Smeuninx in third place.
Another Grand Prix is scheduled for the Sidecars next weekend. Finally, the first 'real' GP for the 2021 Sidecar Cross World Championships in Jinin, Czech Republic.
