Tyler Medaglia goes after Stefan Everts!
In 2003, a certain Stefan Everts took part in the ISDE in Brazil. Everts became an individual winner in the - albeit very cross-inspired - Six Days of Fortaleza. That same year, Stefan won the Motocross of Nations in Zolder with the Belgian team. Things won't go that fast with the Canadian Tyler Medaglia.
For all-rounder Everts, the International Six Days of Enduro were almost a spontaneous inspiration at the time. “The Legend” did not have much preparation and he went to sandy Brazil with an almost standard Yamaha WR450. To save weight, the electric starter was removed from his WR. Although the race conditions played in his hands, it was yet another tour de force by Everts that underlined his versatility and driving qualities. And a feat that few could imitate!
The long days on the motorcycle in particular took some getting used to for Stefan. However, in terms of sport, he blew away the established enduro values. And we would almost forget that in the same 2003 season, the strong Belgian also managed to win three GPs (125cc - MXGP - 650cc) in one day in Ernée, France!
However, Medaglia is certainly not the first and best. The experienced Canadian became Arenacross Lites champion, has several national titles to his name and has often competed for Team Canada in the MX of Nations. This year he is going for the unique MX/Enduro double: the International Six Days of Enduro that start on Monday in the Italian region of Lombardy, and at the end of next month he will participate in the MXON together with Dylan Wright and Jacob Piccolo, even though in Mantua.
In recent history, the Frenchman Christophe Charlier was the only one who managed to win “the Nations” and “Six Days” in the same year. That was in 2017. Who would like to see Jeffrey Herlings or Tim Gajser ride in the ISDE?
