Rick Elzinga is working hard with trainer Max Nagl
After two EMX250 podiums and an overall victory in Oss, Rick Elzinga has already shown himself well in 2021. The 19-year-old motocross rider is currently third in the standings after Nicholas Lapucci and Kevin Horgmo. Has been working since this year the cross rider from Zenderen together with coach Max Nagl.
Ex-MX of Nations winner Nagl, 34 now, has been focusing on coaching younger riders in addition to his own activities as a rider.
Due to the German's long experience and his location in Lommel, this combination fits perfectly for Elzinga. In addition to the TBS Conversions KTM rider, Nagl also has the young Swiss Kevin Brumann under his wing.
Elzinga worked hard on the training program of the fast German. These efforts have been translated into results in recent months.
“When I started the season, I didn't really expect anything,” Rick said Gatedrop.com. “I just kept pushing and pushing and we also kept working on the engine. My training with Max Nagl was certainly also part of the puzzle, the focus on my starts was another (piece). It was quite a surprise that I won in Oss.
The beginning of the season was difficult because I was sick. But just before I got sick, I clicked. Because the riding just went really well... Riding at your best level during a race when it counts, gives you a lot of satisfaction. But I know I'm not at my best level yet. I still go to school and I am not a full-time professional. Due to the illness I had, I am at 80% of my capabilities. That makes me tired after 18 minutes, but I'm working hard to get stronger.”
