ISDE: Belgium holds out, Team NL catches up
Enduro is always toiling and sweating! The Belgian and Dutch 'Six Day' riders gave the best of themselves again today in Italy. Although both World Trophy Teams remained stationary in the standings, 11th for the Belgians and 15th for the Dutch, there were certainly positives.
With Finland in 9th place less than half a minute away and Team Germany just ahead of the Belgians, Philippe Rorive's team continues to look forward to more! Compared to day one, Team NL is closing in on the Austrians. The gap is 43 seconds. Certainly not impossible.
Briefly noted:
- The Belgian leader, Erik Willems (photo above) started his second International Six Days with doubts. Due to illness he was unable to physically train last month. Yet the marketing student held up well today. He had to give up a few places individually, but with a solid 42nd place in the scratch, he is not that far below his value.
- ISDE debutant Dietger Damiaens (intro photo) already felt better on the dusty slopes than yesterday. Dietger remains in P50 in the scratch
- Both Gauthier Lillo and Ludovic Bral made progress. Gauthier was shocked when he narrowly avoided a wrong-way driver in the first test.
- Yesterday he was still searching. Fortunately, day 2 went much smoother for Thierry Pittens (photo above). He approached the top 50 in some tests and rose from P67 to P59 in the scratch
- Daan Bruijsten also started to get used to the Italian dust festival, while Tommie Jochems celebrated his birthday with a home-baked sand cake (photo below)!
- Max Schwarte fell on his elbow for the second day in a row, but given the good care of the Team NL doctor, that should also turn out fine.
- In the Belgian Junior Trophy Team, Henson Lievens continues to take steps forward in his first ISDE adventure. In addition to a smooth double tire change, we can also record a few places gain for him today: from P80 to P71
- Last but not least, the injured Mika Vanderheyden also seems to be coming through. He is now 111th, on to the top 100!
- In the Junior Trophy we find the Netherlands in P10, Belgium is 12th.
