Geerts wins GP at home, De Wolf wins second round
After more than 18 years, the Belgian 125cc/MX2 Grand Prix has a Belgian winner again. Jago Geerts won his home GP in Lommel today with a first and second place. Kay de Wolf managed to win the hearts of the other supporters. The 16-year-old rider won the second heat and finished second in the daily rankings! Maxime Renaux finished third today and thus significantly increased his lead in the standings!

Despite less training time, Vialle is ready as soon as the starting gate drops. The Frenchman takes the best start, but on the inside he sees compatriot Renaux passing. Geerts follows in third place ahead of Conrad Mewse, Ruben Fernandez and Mathys Boisrame. Not a good start for De Wolf who starts the race over 30 minutes and two laps outside the top ten. A little later Vialle makes a mistake and Jed Beaton also gets into trouble. There is also a personal drama for Mewse because he falls silent and loses his third place. Renaux has about three seconds ahead of his teammate. This remains the case for more than 25 minutes because the Sedan rider, born in Northern France, makes a mistake. Geerts takes over the lead and wins to the delight of the audience. Renaux comes second ahead of De Wolf, who makes a big impression. He leaves Fernandez and Vialle behind without many problems. It gets exciting in the last minutes because Thibault Benistant has a good pace. He runs into Fernandez and that forces the Spaniard to speed up. The Honda rider drives towards Vialle! In the final lap the EMX250 champion manages to take over fifth place. On the last jump he comes next to Vialle, but he barely manages to hold on to fourth place. Fernandez finishes sixth ahead of Mathys Boisrame. His teammate Mikkel Haarup showed fighting spirit by crossing the finish line in ninth despite a slide. Renkens takes two points, he crosses the finish line in 19th and Julian Vander Auwera crosses the finish line in 29th.

From pole position, De Wolf gets off to a great start and the teenager boldly takes the lead ahead of Geerts and Benistant. He manages to pass his teammate, but not much later Geerts returns. Renaux follows in fourth place ahead of Mewse. De Wolf controls the race, although Geerts never loses sight of the leader. In the last round it gets even more exciting, but De Wolf wins! Geerts comes second ahead of Renaux and Benistant. The top five is completed by Beaton. Renkens now crosses the finish line in 22nd place and Vander Auwera is now good for 29th place. The last Belgian to win in this class in front of his own audience is Stefan Everts. He won on July 20, 2003 at the Namur circuit. We must note that a GP at that time only consisted of a race! Steve Ramon, now Geerts' trainer, then came second ahead of Andrea Bartolini. For the last Dutch GP round winner, we don't go far back to the time of Roan van de Moosdijk who also won a round in Lommel last year!
Next time:
The fourth race in as many weekends will be held at the Kegums circuit. After this race on August 8, the Grand Prix season will be halted for four weeks due to the cancellation of the Finnish GP.
