EMX250 Latvia: Elzinga back on the podium. Horgmo wins
Kevin Horgmo has often been close to victory in the EMX250. Time and again things went wrong for the Norwegian, but not in Kegums. The GasGas rider has won the fourth race of the EMX250. The 20-year-old rider finished first and second, winning ahead of Nicholas Lapucci (3-1) and Rick Elzinga (2-3).
With this, Horgmo reduces his deficit to Lapucci to 24 points with three games to go. Elzinga follows 43 points behind the leader. For Liam Everts (5-28) it was a day to quickly forget. 15-year-old Dave Kooiker impressed again, just like in Oss. Just like on the Witte Ruijsheuvel, he finished sixth (7-10). He is now seventh in the EMX250 standings.
Finally Kevin Horgmo
After two difficult races, Maxime Grau starts the first heat well. The Frenchman takes the lead ahead of Tom Guyon who is back after his injury. The KTM rider is clearly looking forward to it and he immediately starts attacking his compatriot. The duo hit each other and they fell while the entire starting field followed suit. It's a miracle had both riders get hit. Everts takes the lead ahead of Horgmo, Federico Tuani, Yago Martinez and Elzinga!
A small mistake by Everts brings him down after which Horgmo takes over the lead. Elzinga needs some time to pass Tuani, but the rider from Zenderen manages to work his way up to second place. Horgmo has a firm grip on the leadership and never sees it in danger. The GasGas driver wins ahead of Elzinga and Lapucci. Fourth place goes to Martinez who is riding very well on the KTM. Everts still manages to recover very well, the 17-year-old rider crosses the finish line in fifth. He gets a little help from Hakon Fredriksen because the Norwegian drops out in the final phase! The Bud Racing Kawasaki rider scored well in England, but after that he no longer wanted to succeed. Kooiker, on the other hand, confirms all the good things we have already seen from him. The Hutten Metaal YAmaha driver arrives in 7th after an excellent round, less than two seconds behind Tuani.
Marcel Conijn now takes ten points, the Mulders Motoren rider crosses the finish line in eleventh. Kjell Verbruggen scores in 15th place and Raf Meuwissen takes the last point in 20th place.
Lapucci and his Fantic again!
The second moto Martinez is the best starter ahead of Lapucci, Horgmo, Mike Gwerder and Tuani with the second Fantic in the top five. Everts crashed and a little further on things went wrong for a number of riders, including Conijn. Martinez is allowed to hold the lead for more than five minutes, but then Lapucci thinks it is enough. The 22-year-old rider takes the lead and Horgmo quickly follows. The latter, winner of the first round, tries to catch up but is unable to do so. In the final phase he opts for second place and the day's victory.
Elzinga hasn't had the best start, but he works hard and comes back to a decent third place. Rick takes the podium for the third time this season. Martinez also crosses the finish line in fourth place this round, now ahead of Cornelius Toendel. The Riley Racing rider has a good final sprint, which gives the 19-year-old rider a top five ranking. Kooiker scores again, the Yamaha rider finishes tenth while Meuwissen now crosses the finish line in 16th. There are no points for Verbruggen (24th) and Stuurman (29th). Liam Everts also remains scoreless after falling for a second time.
Next time:
We have to be patient for the next competition, the EMX250 will continue the first weekend of October! Then the points are distributed on the hard circuit of Teutschenthal.
