Boisrame fights bravely in the heavy sand
The sixth Grand Prix of the season was held at the now famous Lommel circuit. Last year three races were held and the majority of the GP riders train on this circuit. The F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team unfortunately had to do without Roan van de Moosdijk. He broke the skipper's bone last week in Loket during the second round. Mathys Boisrame fought fiercely to hold on to fourth place in the standings, but unfortunately he narrowly failed to do so. The Frenchman finished ninth and Mikkel Haarup took tenth place. Jago Geerts wins his home GP and Maxime Renaux increases the lead in the standings.
1st Round
Today Mathys and Mikkel have to do without teammate 'sand bunny' Roan. In the time training, Mikkel has shown that he is made of the right stuff and he is training to the fifth fastest time. When the starting gate drops for the first heat, the Motul-lubricated engines get off to a good start. Mathys manages to come out of the first corner in sixth place, like a shadow followed by his Danish teammate. In the first round both riders lose places, but they are quickly regained. After almost ten minutes of competition, the 23-year-old Frenchman loses his place to De Wolf and Mikkel chases his compatriot Boegh-Damm. Looking for a good line to start the attack, Mikkel chokes. The 19-year-old dives into the sand and loses four places. A little later, Mathys runs into problems and loses the right pace for a moment and therefore loses positions. In the second half of the race, both Kawasaki riders show their teeth and make up places under tough conditions. Mathys crosses the finish line in seventh place and Mikkel also scores well in ninth place!
2st Round
The second start went well for Mikkel of the Kawasaki duo. He starts tenth, followed in two places by Mathys. He manages to choose a nice line at the back along the crowd, allowing him to take over tenth place. In the second lap Hofer makes a mistake, followed a lap later by Vialle. This allows Mathys to climb to eighth place. This is briefly lost due to a mistake, but Mathys works his way back to eighth place, which he manages to hold until the finish. Mikkel is having a hard time and is looking for the right pace on this increasingly difficult circuit. When it starts raining things get a bit better and the Leatt-clad rider manages to make up a place after 20 minutes of racing. The final phase of this match focuses on the duel between Mikkel and Boegh-Damm. The Danes both want to cross the finish line in thirteenth place, which creates a lot of competition. Boegh-Damm takes the position ahead of Mikkel who crosses the finish line in fourteenth.
Next game:
After this sandbox, the Grand Prix season will continue next week in another sandbox. The Latvian Grand Prix will be held on August 8 at the Kegums circuit. This will be followed by a number of free weekends due to the cancellation of the Finnish GP.
