VIDEO: Dirk Geukens in full detail
On July 22 last year, the MX community was shocked by the untimely loss of Dirk Geukens. The former Belgian champion was still active in Motorsport as a trainer/coach within Motorsport Vlaanderen. To keep the beloved Kempen resident in our memories, we have conjured up the cool clip below from the old box!
Geukens was not known for bold statements or much show. The down-to-earth Kempen native had a difficult start in the 500 1991cc World Championship. After his impressive third place in 1990 - as a private driver of all things - and his first Belgian 500cc title - expectations were higher than ever. However, Dirk did what he did best. Don't complain and make a show, but roll up your sleeves and fight for what you're worth!
During the 8th round of the half-liter World Championship he caused the change in Hawkstone Park. Thanks to a victory in the first round and a third place in race two, he took the second GP victory of his career thirty years ago. That we miss him damnit... Do you have nice memories of Dirk or a special story? Let us know in the comments below this post.
