Shana van der Vlist makes the lion roar!
While the Orange Lionesses failed during the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the cross-country ladies are doing well! Shana van der Vlist (2-1) made a big impression in Lommel during the second match of the WMX world championship. The KTM rider finished ahead of Kiara Fontanesi (3-2) and Lynn Valk (1-6).
In addition, Van der Vlist takes over the lead in the World Championship standings from reigning world champion Courtney Duncan.

The small but brave Van der Vlist gets off to a great start with the equally large Papenmeier. However, the German makes a mistake, which puts the Apeldoorn native in the lead. Valk follows and the Dutch ladies immediately distance themselves from Fontanesi. Not a good start for Van de Ven, who passes the pits for the first time outside the top ten. While Fontanesi tries to connect with the ladies at the front, her deficit only increases! Van der Vlist is allowed to set the pace for the first half of the match, but then Valk takes over. The Nijverdal team takes a small lead, but Van der List does not give up easily and continues to fight. This creates tension until the finish, but Valk takes the win ahead of Van der Vlist. Fontanesi crosses the finish line in third place ahead of Van de Ven, who comes back very strongly. Jans-Beken completes the top five and Duncan has to be satisfied with sixth place! Amandine Verstappen crosses the finish line in eighth place, making him the only Belgian in the points. Jenitty van der Beek scores her first World Cup points by crossing the finish line in 18th. The last point in this heat goes to Kimberly Braam.
2e some
After her difficult first round, Duncan immediately took the lead in the second round. Papenmeier is in a good position again and the German is followed by Van de Ven. Fontanesi has a good pace and the Italian is working his way to the top position. She is unable to gain a lead because Duncan and Van de Ven do not lose sight of her. In the initial phase, Jans-Beken joins the battle, but then the Limburg native loses the connection. Van de Vlist dances over the heavy sand and her pace is higher than the other ladies! The KTM rider leaves everyone behind and wins the second moto with a wide lead. The battle for second place is fierce and the ladies are just not coming to blows. Second place goes to GasGas driver Fontanesi, followed by Duncan and Van de Ven, who crashed briefly. Jans-Beken again takes fifth place ahead of Valk, which means she manages to reach the podium. Verstappen now has to be satisfied with ninth place while Van der Beek scores again with 18th place. Braam is also good for 20th place in this round.
Next time:
The World Championship continues next month with the Turkish Grand Prix. There are two matches starting on September 4 followed by another match three days later.
