Lindner surprises with day victory in Geldermalsen
Last weekend was also the first starting opportunity for this year's women's class in Geldermalsen. The competition image was determined by two North Limburg ladies with a somewhat surprising winner. It was Gemma Lindner who claimed the day's victory with a first and second place. Second place went to Amber Simons, who lost her chances of winning due to a fall in the first heat.
As a result, she finished third in the heat and the heat victory was not enough for her to win the day. The last place on the podium went to Daniëlle van Kempen, who also managed to benefit from Simons' fall and thus kept Annika Erpeka behind her. Stacey Nooijens ended the day with two fifth place finishes in the heats and also finished fifth in the daily rankings.
First heat
It was Van Kempen who had the best start ahead of Lindner, Janna Vos, Simons and Jolien Mulder. While Vos and Mulder fell back in the first lap, it was Lindner and Simons at the front who quickly passed van Kempen. Behind this trio, Nooijens and Erpeka finished in fourth and fifth place. Lindner and Simons were in a class of their own and quickly had a big lead over Van Kempen. Slowly but surely, Lindner increased her lead over Simons. Van Kempen had to look behind him mainly because Erpeka had passed Nooijens and was approaching. Unfortunately, Erpeka was one of the victims of the poor condition of the track and, like Nooijens, she got into trouble one lap earlier. At the front, Simons had to give up her hunt for Lindner after a fall. Lindner also won the heat. Simons lost second place to Van Kempen due to her fall. Erpeka and Nooijens crossed the finish line in fourth and fifth.
Second heat
Van Kempen again came out of the first corner on top. She was now followed by Simons, Nina Dijkman, Demy van Brenk and Nooijens. After the first full lap, Simons and Lindner had already taken the first two positions. However, the roles were now reversed and it was Simons who was the faster of the two and gradually took the lead. Behind this duo, Dijkman and van Brenk dropped out of the top five in the first round. Erpeka had passed Nooijens and now finished fourth behind van Kempen. Van Kempen again had to give in to Simons and Lindner and again had to deal with Erpeka who was approaching. This time, Erpeka managed to pass van Kempen halfway through the heat. The heat victory now belonged to Simons, who left Lindner well behind him. However, with second place in the heat, Lindner did take the day's victory. Erpeka now crossed the finish line in third place. Van Kempen still had to deal with a strong Nooijens, who recorded her fastest lap times in the final phase of the heat. It was narrowly Van Kempen who managed to hold on to fourth place.
