“There are still fifteen matches on the programme.”
After the first round, Glenn Coldenhoff had the best credentials to win the Dutch Grand Prix. The Yamaha rider crashed on the first descent after the start. The 30-year-old crosser came back strongly from the backfield, but unfortunately scoring points was no longer possible. Ben Watson became the best rider of the WILVO trio, the Briton finished fifth ahead of his teammate Jeremy Seewer. The riders tell their story here from 'De Witte Ruijsheuvel'.
Glenn Coldenhoff:
“If we look at the positive points of today, the first heat was very good. I had a very good feeling on the track and to ride in front of the Dutch fans is always special. In the first moto I got a very good start and was in the lead for almost the entire race. Only Jeffrey Herlings managed to pass me towards the end, so I finished second. I was quite satisfied with this. In the second moto I don't know what happened. I think it was a tough crash. I took a big hit and then had a hard time coming back. The result is not what I wanted or expected, but that is part of motocross. There are still fifteen matches on the programme."
Jeremy Seewer:
“We've done a pretty good job. I clearly had the rhythm for the podium today and also the fitness that goes with it. I was also strong at the end of the heat. In the first moto I was there with the guys at the front and this happened in the second moto as well. Unfortunately, at the start of the second moto I hit Romain Febvre's rear wheel and fell. I have been very lucky with this. I haven't suffered any bruises yet and was able to come back to tenth place. It was not the result I was going for, but I came back to the front throughout the field."
Ben Watson:
“Today was my best result so far. If I'm honest, I didn't expect to be able to finish in the top five in the MXGP field already. I missed the start a bit in the first moto because my reaction wasn't fast enough, but in the second moto I got away very well. The progress I have made is good and we will continue from here and I am very happy with that."
