EMX250: Horgmo chokes, Lapucci takes advantage
With eight minutes to go, Kevin Horgmo (SM Action-MC Migliori-GasGas) took command from two-stroke hero Nicholas Lapucci (Fantic Factory Racing). Horgmo seemed to be on his way to his EMX250 victory of the season. However, the fast Norwegian choked spectacularly in the skid marks at the pit lane. This gave Lapucci the victory.
After Lapucci took the holeshot again, Horgmo was actually the only one who could follow the Italian's rhythm. A regular Jorgen-Matthias Talvikku (BT Racing) finished a creditable third. After a mediocre start, a driven Rick Elzinga, the winner of Oss, raced to a nice P3. However, in the final phase he had to lose one place to Talvikku.
For home rider Liam Everts, the EMX250 opener also became a catch-up race. Liamski started 9th, was knocked back to P24 due to a fall, but made an excellent recovery. Lap after lap, the 16-year-old Belgian made up ground. Half the match he had the top 10 in sight, but Everts' final offensive was especially impressive. Horgmo, well in the lead before his crash, managed to finish fourth. Liam Everts ultimately finished fifth.
Marcel Conijn was already doing well this morning during qualifying and confirmed with an excellent seventh place. In addition, Dave Kooiker (13th) and Raf Meuwissen (16th) also scored points. Due to several falls, the first series became one to quickly forget for Kjell Verbruggen. He finished 28th. The decisive second series starts at 16:35 PM.
