A perfect day for Rick Elzinga
Rick Elzinga won the second race of the KNMV Open Dutch Championship 250cc in Halle. It was the perfect day for the KTM rider who was the fastest man in practice in the morning and went on to win both heats. Andrea Bonacorsi, the leader after his victory in Arnhem, comes second on the 'De Kappenbulten' circuit with a fourth and second place. Kjell Verbruggen (3-5) completed the podium at the HALMAC.
1st heat:
Verbruggen takes the best start in the first heat of the day, ahead of Dave Kooiker, who then takes over the lead. In the fourth laps the Hutten Metaal Racing driver made a mistake. Camden McLellan takes the lead but the South African is no match for Elzinga. The rider from Zenderen was unable to capitalize on his pole position and started twelfth. He then works his way forward to take the lead with three laps to go. McLellan crosses the finish line second ahead of Verbruggen and Bonacorsi, who crashed briefly in the second laps. The Italian returns to fourth place ahead of Terschelling Marcel Conijn.
2st heat:
A flashy start for the Yamahas of Bonacorsi and Kooiker during the second round. They are followed by Nikita Kucherov and Elzinga. In the second laps Elzinga manages to catch up with the fast starters and takes the lead. The second round is also won by the KTM rider. Kooiker has overtaken his Italian teammate for second place, but he comes back in the final phase and still takes second place. Kooiker takes third place ahead of Belgian Wesley Dieudonne and Verbruggen completes the top five.
