Double for Osterhagen, Karssemakers on the podium
In Maggiora, Hakon Osterhagen won the second race of the European 125cc Championship. The Norwegian won both heats ahead of Valerio Lata, who finished second ahead of Kay Karssemakers! The Brabander finished third and fifth during the heats, allowing him to climb onto the podium. A strong performance for Scott Smulders, the BT Racing rider finished fifth today while Ivano van Erp only scored in the first round. Sacha Coenen, Lucas Coenen and Bradley Mesters do the same!

When the starting gate goes down, Smulders reacts best and takes the lead. Bobby Bruce follows Elias Escandell, Andrea Rossi and Osterhagen for the Spaniard. There are problems for Van Erp, who ends up in the backfield and has to work his way forward. Karssemakers is around the top ten in the race over 25 minutes and two laps. Bruce takes the lead at the front, but the Brit then makes a mistake. Smulders takes back the lead before Osterhagen goes on the attack. In the second full laps the Fantic rider manages to pass the Husqvarna rider. Osterhagen wins the round ahead of Lata who has a nice duel with Sacha Coenen. The Belgian seems to be third, but a fall throws a spanner in the works. As a result, Karssemakers takes over third place and the Boxtel native can hold on to this until the finish. Smulders follows his compatriot close behind and takes fourth place ahead of the Spanish champion Adria Monne Viles. Lucas Coenen crosses the finish line in eleventh place and MJC rider Van Erp scores seven points with a 14th place.

The best start during the second round of the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing goes to Lata. The KTM rider is followed by Osterhagen and Bruce. In the initial phase of this race, Lata manages to hold on to the lead, but a mistake ensures that the 17-year-old rider takes over the lead. Sacha Coenen quickly passes Bruce and not much later the Belgian displaces Lata from second place. However, with ten minutes to go, Coenen makes a mistake and the BUD Racing rider falls. This allows Lata to take over second place. Bruce now stays on both wheels and the GasGas driver comes third. Andrea Rossi can withstand the pressure from Karssemakers. The Italian finishes fourth ahead of the SKS Racing driver and Smulders. Sacha Coenen managed to cross the finish line in eighth place. A beautiful 16th place for Mesters, the F&H Racing Shop rider scores his first points in the EMX125. No points for Lucas Coenen (21st), Baptiste Beernaert (24th) and Danny Van den Bosse (25th). Unfortunately, Ivano Van Erp and Sem de Lange do not reach the finish.
Next time:
The third race will have to wait a while, this championship will continue on August 21 during the Grand Prix of Finland. This will be followed by five more competitions in October!
