Podium for De Waal, strong comeback by Wietse Brackman
The 3rd round of the Hauts de France championship on the beautiful circuit of Avesnes sur Helpe again attracted many lowlanders. Guest rider Milko Potisek (Yamaha) lived up to his role as favorite in the MX1. He beat Daymond Martens (Bud Racing Kawasaki) and Micha-Boy De Waal (BT Racing).
In the 125, Vincent Marty, who switched from MX2 to 125, took the overall victory with a 2-1 score ahead of Scott Smulders who won the first round. Bradley Mesters (4-4) came a few points shy of the final podium. From the Belgian side, the young Hugo Stiennes caught the spotlight with a top-10 finish.
Smulders and De Waal were not the only BT Racing drivers. In MX2, Jorgen Matthias Talvikku was twice the strongest ahead of his teammate Camden McLellan. Belgian Wesley Dieudonné finished third on the final podium (3-3). Arnaud Herinne, leader in the standings, almost didn't race in Avesnes due to a shoulder injury. In race 1 he limited the damage with a 6th place, but due to a fall in the second moto he only finished 17th.
As a result, the experienced Kristof van Vaerenbergh takes over the leadership position! The MC Mikkola pilot qualified 4th in the morning, but suffered from broken glasses in the first heat. In the restart Kristof took sporting revenge. Despite a poor start, he finished sixth in the wheel of Morel and Lepan.
Potisek dominates, Brackman surprises
In the 450 there was again a strong field of participants at the start. Milko Potisek's strong pole already indicated in the morning what the balance of power was. The beach racer was convincingly the fastest in both series. Daymond Martens (3-2) and Micha-Boy De Waal (2-4) were allowed to join Potisek on the podium.
Unlike his rivals, Wietse Brackman (Leon Sagaert Husqvarna Belgium) started without a competition rhythm and with few training hours under his belt. The multiple MCLB champion surprised himself with a decent fourth place (4-3). A regular Emilio Vannieuwenhuyze did a good job in the championship in which he has now risen to P7. In the Hauts de France MX1 championship, Ryan Bonnewijn is in 4th place.
Unfortunately, there were also two serious falls in Avesnes. In the 450, Jeremy Coen, fourth in the opening heat, crashed early in the second moto. Coen has now been released from the hospital. In MX2, a red flag was needed to evacuate Ugo Moors. He suffered lung damage and a broken wrist during his fall.
